Situated primarily on Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park is a popular summer destination for New Englanders looking for a place to get away. The 47,000-acre park has miles upon miles of hiking and biking trails for visitors to travel, as well as many points of entry for boating and fishing, both on the lakes and in the surrounding bay. Even with abundant campsites dotting the park, spaces are often reserved well in advance, so make plans early in order to get a space at the site you're hoping for. Isolated on the beautiful, rocky coast of Maine, it's about a six hour drive to the park from Boston and an hour from Bangor.
Open year round. Many sites closed during winter months, check website for details.
Entry fee (7 day pass): Vehicle mid-Jun - early Oct $20; early Jun - mid-Jun & early Oct - Oct 31 $10; Nov - May entry is free.
